This specimen was lot 2252 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $83.30. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Mahmud II, 1808-1939, AR kuruş, Kostantiniye, AH1223 year 6, lustrous, About Unc." This type was struck years 3-13 and has a high catalog value in this grade. Altho all of the coinage was debased during Mahmud's reign, the silver was the victim of over eight debasements. After the reform of 1839, the kuruş was stabilized as a coin the size of a half dime.
