Turkey AH 1203(9) 20 para
This specimen was lot 75640 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $390.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. Ottoman Empire. 20 Para, AH 1203 Year 9 (1796/7). Istanbul (Islambol) Mint. Selim III. NGC MS-61. Top pop; pop: 1." Turkish issues before the reform of 1839 are a mess of constantly changing denominations as the government attempted to debase its way out of perpetual bankruptcy. This type was struck years 1-16. It is not listed as expensive in circulated condition but is very difficult to find nice; this example is typical in being weakly struck. Forty para made a kuruş.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.0-6.2 g, 0.465 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-495.
