Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 75639
SB526-75639r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75639 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $170.80. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. Ottoman Empire. Yuzluk, AH 1203 Year 10 (1798/9). Istanbul (Islambol) Mint. Selim III. PCGS MS-62." Turkish issues before the reform of 1839 are a mess of constantly changing denominations as the government attempted to debase its way out of perpetual bankruptcy. This type was struck years 1-19. It's a bit of a stretch to call this a silver crown but Davenport assigned it a number. It is not listed as expensive but is very difficult to find nice; this example is typical in being weakly struck.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 31.0-32.9 g, 0.465 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-1817, KM-507, 38 mm diameter.
