Turkey AH 1187(2) piastre
The first specimen was lot 2373 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Abdul Hamid I, 1774-1789, AR piastre, Kostantiniye, AH1187 year 2, faint surface hairlines, EF." We think this piastre, struck years 1-8, was equal to forty para or a kuruş but the coinage system was so confused that we aren't sure. The second specimen was lot 382 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $390. The catalog description[2] noted, "TURKEY: Abdul Hamid I, 1774-1789, AR kurush, Kostantiniye, AH1187 year 2, KM-396, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Kenneth A. Bovenkamp Collection."
