Turkey AH 1187(16) altin
This specimen was lot 3724 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$602 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY, 1 Findik 1187 H./Jahr 16, Islambul (Istanbul). NGC MS63. Das durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar (Finest certified by NGC)." Turkish issues before the reform of 1839 are a mess of constantly changing denominations as the government attempted to debase its way out of perpetual bankruptcy. This type is catalogued in the SCWC as an altin, not a findik. It is listed for years 9, 15 and 16. It was probably intended to trade for a ducat.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.5 g, gold, this specimen 3.41 g.
