Steve Album sale 51, lot 2021

This specimen was lot 2021 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Abdul Hamid I, 1774-1789, AR 2 zolota (altmislik), Kostantiniye, AH1187 year 14, a lovely lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS63." Ottoman coins were dated using regnal years; the reverse bears the date AH 1187 (= 1774 A.D.) while the obverse bears the regnal year 14 (= 1785 A.D.). The Hejira calendar uses a lunar year instead of a solar year, so its starting date moves from year to year. This type was issued during years 11-16.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 26.1-26.9 g, billon.

Catalog reference: Dav-1814, KM-402.
