Turkey 1973 500 kurush
This specimen was lot 76777 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $2,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. 500 Kurush, 1973. Istanbul Mint. NGC MS-63. "Monnaie de Luxe" type. An alluring and nicely detailed representative, displaying appealing brilliance, and limited instances of actual handling across the surfaces." This type is listed in the SCWC for 1942-2010 while Numista lists dates as recent as 2013. The monnaie de luxe was intended for use in jewelry so it is no surprise that most have been holed or mounted.
