This specimen was lot 1146 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $324. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY: Republic, AV 50 kurush, 1929, scarce type, a lovely lustrous example! NGC graded MS63, Scarce." This type was struck 1926-29 along with 25, 100, 250 and 500 kurush. It does not have a high catalog value but is seldom seen. It is among the first Turkish coins to bear the Common Era date (1929) instead of the Hegira date (AH 1348), doubtless decreed by Ataturk himself.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.60 g, 0.917 fine gold.
Catalog reference: Fr-196 (formerly Fr-82), KM-841.
