This type was struck 1950 and 1957 in the name of Bey Muhammed Al Amin. French control of Tunisia, never firm, collapsed after World War Two and the French withdrew in 1956. This issue is dated after independence but coinage for Habib Bourgiba's republic did not commence until 1960. It is accompanied by copper-nickel five, ten, fifty and hundred francs.
