Tunisia 1951 20 francs
This specimen was lot 74765 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUNISIA. 20 Francs, AH 1371//1951. Paris Mint. Muhammad VIII. PCGS MS-65. From a somewhat unusual low mintage issuance that is extremely difficult to locate. Brilliant, semi-prooflike fields contrast richly satin devices, and while some darker tone lingers near the rims, the surfaces are otherwise fully argent and smooth for the grade. A necessity for specialists who are building date sets." This type was struck in small numbers 1945-55 for presentation by the Bey. As such, the SCWC consigns it to the catalog of Unusual World Coins. This issue was struck to the standard of the French twenty francs of 1935-36.
