Sincona sale 31, lot 372

This specimen was lot 372 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 140 CHF (about US$166 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "REPUBLIC OF TUNISIA, 10 dinars 1999ce/1420ah AR xf+ ex Pf." This type was struck with Arabic legends (shown here, with two date varieties) and French legends, both rare. It is unlikely to have circulated beyond the president's circle of cronies and supporters. It commemorated the twelfth anniversary of the revolution which toppled the senile Habib Bourgiba in 1987.

Recorded mintage: 450 proofs.

Specification: 38 g, 0.900 fine silver, 1.092 troy oz ASW, this specimen 37.96 g.
