Sincona sale 31, lot 289

This specimen was lot 289 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 900 CHF (about US$1,068 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRENCH PROTECTORATE | Reign of Muhammed al-Amin Bey (1362-1376ah/1943-1957ce). 20 francs 1956ce/1376ah AR R Fdc." This type was struck 1956 only for presentation by the Bey, who had promoted himself to king. As such, the SCWC consigns it to the catalog of Unusual World Coins. This issue was struck to the standard of the French twenty francs of 1929-39.
