Tunisia 1945 20 francs
This specimen was lot 282 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 550 CHF (about US$653 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH PROTECTORATE | Reign of Muhammed al-Amin Bey (1362-1376ah/1943-1957ce) 20 francs 1945ce/1365ah AR 156 RR Fdc Ex Baldwins 26:768." This type was struck in small numbers 1945-55 for presentation by the Bey. As such, the SCWC consigns it to the catalog of Unusual World Coins. This issue was struck to the standard of the French twenty francs of 1935-36. It seems unlikely that any made it to Tunisia in the middle of the fighting between the Allies and the Nazis.
Recorded mintage: 53.
Specification: 20 g, 0.680 fine silver, this specimen 20.08 g.
