Sincona sale 31, lot 285

This specimen was lot 285 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$297 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH PROTECTORATE | Reign of Muhammed al-Amin Bey (1362-1376ah/1943-1957ce). 10 francs 1943ce/1363ah AR R Fdc." This type was struck in small numbers 1943-44 for presentation by the Bey. This issue was struck to the standard of the French ten francs of 1929-39. It seems unlikely that any made it to Tunisia in the middle of the fighting between the Allies and the Nazis.

Recorded mintage: 1,503.

Specification: 10 g, 0.680 fine silver, this specimen 10.04 g.

Catalog reference: Gad 101, KM 269.
