This specimen was lot 5979 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUNISIA Mohammed Lamine Bei, 1943-1957 10 Francs 1944. Uncirculated." This rare type was struck in Paris for Tunisia during World War Two to the obsolete standard of the French ten francs of 1929-39. It was struck in the name of Muhammed al-Amin Bey, a French puppet; the French in turn being puppets of the Nazi occupiers. The French left in 1956 and in 1957 a republic was established, ousting the discredited monarchy.
