Sincona sale 90, lot 1445

This specimen was lot 1445 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIECHTENSTEIN, Karl Eusebius, 1627-1684, Karl Eusebius, 1627-1684. 3 Kreuzer 1629, Troppau. Münzmeister Michael Wilke. Sehr schön. (Germany, principality of Liechtenstein, Charles Eusebius, 1627-84, three kreuzer of 1629, Troppau mint. Very fine.)"

Jagerndorf, along with Troppau, was in the uppermost (southern) part of Silesia, a province under Austrian rule 1526-1740. Most of Silesia was seized and annexed by Frederick the Great in the Seven Years War but Troppau and Jagerndorf remained Austrian and are now Czech instead of Polish. Jagerndorf was held by the margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach. After the margrave's death in 1623, it passed to the direct rule of the emperor, who granted it to the princes of Liechtenstein. The cataloguers at Sincona likely listed this coin under Liechtenstein to appeal to Swiss bidders.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 1.65 g.

Catalog reference: Divo 47, HMZ 2-1359b.
