Tristan Da Cunha 2011 2 sovereigns
This specimen was lot 75799 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "TRISTAN DA CUNHA. 2 Sovereigns, 2011. Elizabeth II. GEM PROOF. Commemorating the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. From a limited mintage of just 1,000 pieces. A charming example which contains just under half an ounce of gold. Lustrous and brilliant." This NCLT was made and sold in Great Britain and it seems unlikely that any made it to the windswept island of Tristan Da Cunha in the south Atlantic. We have assumed it matches the weight of a British gold two pounds; if so, this example sold for less than its bullion value.
Recorded mintage: 1,000.
Specification: 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.417 troy oz AGW.
