Transylvania 1578 ducat Fr-284
This specimen was lot 1213 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Siebenbürgen. Christoph Bathori, 1576-1581. Dukat 1578, Hermannstadt. MON*TRAN - S - IL*C*B*D*S Der hl. Ladislaus steht von vorn, ohne Mantel, im Harnisch mit Krone zwischen 15-78. Rv. *PATRONA* [Wappen] *VNGARIE* Madonna sitzt von vorn auf der Mondsichel. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich. (principality of Transylvania, Christoph Bathory, 1576-81, ducat of 1578, Hermannstadt mint. Obverse: St. Ladislaus stands, with mantle, armor and crown; reverse: the Madonna enthroned. Very rare, Extremely fine.)"
Friedberg lists this type for 1577-81 and notes it as fairly common. The Hermannstadt mintmark was two crossed swords, crown above.
