Stephen Album sale 50, lot 630

This specimen was lot 630 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: Christian IV, 1620-1648, lead kas, ND, DAN / NSBO / RG // DOC monogram, with B below and a symbol above that can be interpreted either as the letter I of the number 1; probably the finest known example! choice XF, RRR, ex Solar Collection. "DOC" stands for Dansk Ostindisk Compagni." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This lead cash was struck in over four dozen varieties during the reign of Christian IV (died 1648). The reverse lettering is intended to read, "DANSBORG."
