Stephen Album sale 50, lot 2714

This specimen was lot 2714 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: Christian IV, 1620-1648, lead 1/2 kas, ND, uncrowned large "4 ", with the letter C for Christian, without an extra symbol right of the number "4 " // three-turreted gate, the emblem of Copenhagen, perhaps symbolizing the ship Kjøbenhavn, bold VF-XF, R, ex Solar Collection. The turreted gate type with the large number "4" comes in three denominations, half kas (about 2.0 g), one kas (about 4.0 g) and 2 kas (about 8.0 g)." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. This seems to be the only half cash struck during the reign of Christian IV (died 1648).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: lead, this specimen 2.07 g.
