This specimen was lot 74763 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "TIMOR. 20 Avos, 1945. Lisbon Mint. NGC MS-64. A delightful near-Gem, this enticing example offers a gunmetal gray tone with some champagne-olive hues further accentuating the peripheries." The colonial regime also struck ten and fifty avos for the island in 1945. Issues for that colony did not commence until 1945, after the Japanese surrender, and continued until Portuguese withdrawal in 1975.
