This specimen was lot 74400 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Tibet. Tangka, ND (1907-09). NGC AU-55. Light ash gray toning with virtually no wear. Quite scarce and highly sought after." Tibet, now a (reluctant) part of China, had secured a de facto independence from China as the Manchu Empire decayed in the late nineteenth century. Tibetan currency was a mixture of Chinese, Nepalese and India units complicated by frequent debasements. One srang = 6-2/3 tangka = 10 sho.
