Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 75310
SB526-75310r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75310 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $671. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 3 Groschen, 1763. Thorn Mint. August III. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." This type is recorded for 1763 only. The mint in Thorn closed in 1765, so this must have been among the final issues. This piece seems to have been worth about one twenty-fourth of a thaler, tho debasements were so frequent that it's hard to tell. Elector Frederick August of Saxony was also king of Poland and issues for the two regions bear a strong resemblance.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.53 g, billon.

Catalog reference: KM-63; Kop-8396.
