Steve Album sale 54, lot 1231

This specimen was lot 1231 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "THAILAND: Rama IV, 1851-1868, 1/8 fuang, ND (1862), issue in tin, legend in Thai, Chinese and English, a lovely lustrous mint state example! NGC graded MS63." Altho patterns exist in copper, the regime chose to strike this in tin. Many varieties exist, which are better explained on Numista than the SCWC. The obverse's lower row of jewels in the crown can be enclosed between lines or not (the latter shown here) and the reverse can have large or small elephants (small elephant shown here). Tin corrodes readily so choice examples are few.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7.2 g, tin, 29 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM Y6.1, Y6.2 (shown here), Y6.3, Y6.4.
