Switzerland 2010 500 francs Aargau
This specimen was lot 3423 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Aargau. 500 Franc, 2010. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO Secure Holder. VERY SCARCE modern shooting festival commemorative with a mintage of only 200 pieces. Sharp frosted devices are thrown into sharp contrast beside the hard mirror fields. Free of any spots or fog and no signs of contact or handling." This semi-medallic coin is a descendant of the shooting thalers first awarded in the early nineteenth century altho it seems improbable that any of these circulated. Aargau is a canton of Switzerland. This series of 500 francs supplanted a series of thousand franc coins issued 1984-94.
Recorded mintage: 200.
Specification: 19.59 g, 0.999 fine gold, .629 troy oz AGW.
