Switzerland 1984 1000 francs Fr-507
This specimen was lot 3411 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $2,820. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. 1,000 Franc, 1984-S. PCGS PROOF-66. Struck to commemorate the Zurich shooting festival in Oberhasli. A RARE issue with a mintage of only 300 pieces. The first year of these commemoratives being struck in this denomination. Brilliant hard mirror fields free of any interruption or signs of handling and frosted glowing devices with no breaks or flecks. In an old green label PCGS holder and a very good candidate for upgrading." This shooting festival token had a nominal face value during the festival which ended once the festival was over. However, as it continues a old tradition of such pieces, the series (in gold and silver) remains popular and is mentioned in Friedberg and the SCWC Unusual World Coins. This one, the first in the modern series, is accompanied by a silver fifty francs (KM XS22).
Recorded mintage: 300.
Specification: 26 g, 0.900 fine gold, .752 troy oz AGW.
