Switzerland 1944 2 francs rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck at the Bern mint 1874-1967. The design is still in use today tho the coin is now copper-nickel. This specimen is struck to the standard of the French two francs of 1866-1920. Many of the dates from the twentieth century are very common and this one is no exception. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins. The first specimen was lot 2273 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €400 (about US$539 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ, EIDGENOSSENSCHAFT, 2 Franken 1944, B, Bern. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Polierte Platte. (Swiss Confederation, two francs of 1944, Bern mint. Scarce in this quality, specimen.)"

Recorded mintage: 6,276,000 + specimens.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, .268 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: Divo 488. KM 21.
