Sincona sale 83, lot 5255

This specimen was lot 5255 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 250 CHF (about US$335 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND, 5 Rappen 1897 B, Bern. Äusserst seltene Erhaltung. NGC MS66. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. Das neben zwei weiteren durch NGC höchstbewertete Exemplar. (Extremely rare condition, Cabinet piece, Tied with two others for finest certified by NGC)." The SCWC records the 1897 as a scarce date for the five and ten rappen. The type was struck 1879-1980 without change.

Recorded mintage: 500,000.

Specification: 2 g, copper-nickel, 17.15 mm diameter.
