The first specimen was lot 2251 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €300 (about US$404 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ, EIDGENOSSENSCHAFT, Ku.-1 Rappen 1853, B, Bern. Variante mit breitem Schweizerkreuz auf der Vorderseite. R Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Swiss Confederation, copper rappen of 1853, Bern mint, variety with large cross on obverse. Scarce, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The second specimen was lot 1695 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 3,375 CHF (about US$5,144 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Eidgenossenschaft, 1 Rappen 1853 B, Bern. Schmales Kreuz. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich. (Switzerland, Very rare, especially in this condition, Extremely Fine.)"

This type was first issued in 1850. This date has a high catalog value, especially compared to twentieth century dates which can be had for a few dollars in any grade. The thin cross variety obtains a large premium. We are not familiar enough with the market to know if the catalog price is realistic.

Recorded mintage: 2,008,000.

Specification: bronze, plain edge, the second specimen 1.49 g.
