Sweden 1878-EB 50 ore
This specimen was lot 1469 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN: Oscar II, 1872-1907, AR 50 öre, 1878, mintmaster EB, NGC graded PF66 CAM, RR. Although the American grading companies consider these Proof, they are referred to as Prooflike in the Swedish market. Nevertheless these coins carry a significant premium over regular strikes." This type was minted 1875-83 and 1898-99. The later dates are fairly common but the early dates are scarce. Altho the weight matches that of the French franc, the fineness and diameter are different and it is unlikely they exchanged.
Recorded mintage: 319,000.
Specification: 5 g, 0.600 fine silver, 22 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-740.
