Sweden 1869 carolin
This specimen was lot 3232 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €320 (about US$431 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEDEN, KÖNIGREICH, Karl XV. 1859-1872. Carolin (10 Francs) 1869, Stockholm. 2,90 g Feingold. GOLD. Min. Kratzer, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (kingdom of Sweden, Charles XV, 1859-72, carolin (ten francs) of 1869, Stockholm mint. Light scratches, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This carolin, struck to the standard of a French ten francs d'or, superseded the gold ducat struck prior to 1868. The type was struck 1868-72 but was replaced by the gold ten kronor in the reform of 1873.
