Sweden 1868-ST riksdaler specie Dav-356
This specimen was lot 34289 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sweden: Carl XV Adolf 4 Riksdaler 1868-ST MS64 NGC, Stockholm mint. Large edge lettering. With initials ST for mintmaster Sebastian Tham. Positively roaring with luster rolling unstoppably across the largely untoned, argent surfaces. A minor scratch on the reverse mentioned for accuracy, otherwise admitting only minute wisps from handling and fully Choice thus." This type was struck 1861-71 and is somewhat common. The present dynasty is descended from Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals who defected to Sweden.
