Sweden 1855 2 skilling
This specimen was lot 31005 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $528.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Oscar I 2 Skilling 1855, MS62 Brown NGC. An attractive example of this large copper type with deep brown surfaces and a trace of luster on the obverse. The key date for the type with a mintage of 11,000." In the reform of 1830, the sixth and third riksdalers were dropped for eighth, quarter and half riksdalers. The skilling, formerly 1/48 riksdaler, became 1/128 riksdaler and new one-sixth, one-third, half, two-thirds, one, two and four skilling issued in copper. The smallest silver denomination, the 1/32 riksdaler, was four skilling. Oscar succeeded to the throne in 1844 and his bust replaced that of Carl XIV on all the denominations. This bust was modified on the two skilling in 1845 and struck in this form until 1855. Another coinage reform in that year retired the denomination.
