Stephen Album sale 43, lot 1410

This specimen was lot 1410 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN: Carl XIV Johan, 1818-1844, AR riksdaler specie, 1836, mintmaster CB, much original mint luster! NGC graded AU55." This type was struck 1831-42 and most of the dates are scarce to rare. This one is fairly common. Carl XIV Johan was originally Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals. He married into the Swedish royal family and became king himself in 1818. The present dynasty is descended from him.
