Sweden 1821-CB riksdaler specie Dav-350

This specimen was lot 40790 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $2,070. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Riksdaler, 1821-CB. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Struck in 1825 to commemorate 300 years of political and religious freedom. Mintage of only 7,339 pieces." This type, tho low mintage, was extensively saved so is more available than the regular issue (Dav-349). Carl XIV Johan was originally Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals. He married into the Swedish royal family and became king himself in 1818. The present dynasty is descended from him.
