Sweden 1812-OL ducat Fr-81
This specimen was lot 34268 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sweden: Carl XIII gold Ducat 1812-OL MS63+ NGC. "SVERIGES G" variety. Mintage: . A prize for the rarities collector as this type has not been offered at Heritage in over a decade. Blazing honey-gold luster highlights this enchanting piece that should pique the interest of collectors who want to add a charming, unique Ducat to their collection. Best of three graded at NGC." This type was struck 1810-14 and is scarce, as are most Swedish ducats. Karl XIII was duke of Sodermanland when his nephew Gustav IV was deposed by military coup in 1809. Sixty years old and in poor health, he did not protest when French general Bernadotte was appointed crown prince and his heir.
