Sweden 1812 1/12 skilling
This specimen was lot 75699 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/12 Skilling, 1812. Stockholm Mint. Carl XIII. PCGS MS-63 Brown. A beautiful and appealing specimen, delivering rich details, and a soft glossy brown finish." Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent, beginning in 1798. The öre and mark were dropped and the skilling, 1/48 of a riksdaler, introduced. The one-twelfth skilling was 1/576 of a riksdaler and the lowest denomination. This type is listed for 1812 only. None were struck after 1825.
Recorded mintage: 2,880,000.
Specification: 2.4 g, copper, 20.5 mm diameter.
