This specimen was lot 11126 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/4 Skilling, 1802. Avesta Mint. Gustav IV Adolf. NGC VF Details--Damaged. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." In 1798, the coinage was reformed. The öre and mark were dropped and the skilling, 1/48 of a riksdaler, introduced. The one-quarter skilling was 1/192 of a riksdaler and the second lowest denomination. This type is listed for 1802-08. None were struck after 1833. The coinage was reformed again in 1830, 1855 and 1873. Gustav IV Adolf succeeded to the throne in 1792 when his father was murdered. His erratic ways were tolerated until 1809, when he plunged into war with Russia and lost Finland. He was overthrown in a coup and his uncle placed on the throne. Gustav died in exile in 1837, aged 58 years.
