Sweden 1716-LC mark

Heritage sale 3029, lot 30981

This specimen was lot 30981 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Carl XII Mark 1716-LC, MS64 NGC. Very attractive with a perfect blend of aged patina and underlying luster. The details are sharply struck on both sides. Very rare type in Mint State." This silver mark was struck in Sweden 1701-17 in the closing stages of the Great Northern War when Sweden was losing and the government bankrupt. One mark was eight öre.

Specification: 5.2 g, 0.694 fine silver, 24.3 mm diameter.
