This specimen was lot 11356 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €65 (about US$68). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Öre, 1699 - AS. Stockholm Mint. Karl XII. NGC VF-35. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1697-1714 in considerable numbers for Karl II. This is a common date. Eight öre made a mark and six mark made a riksdaler. In 1700, Charles XII embarked on the Great Northern War which would result in the destruction of the empire built by Gustavus Adolphus. In 1721, Sweden would surrender the Baltic provinces to Russia, Bremen and Verden to Hanover, most of Swedish Pomerania to Prussia and recognize Danish control of Schleswig-Holstein.
