Sweden 1698-AS ore
This specimen was lot 11098 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €69 (about US$80). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Öre, 1698/7-AS. Stockholm Mint. Karl XII. NGC EF-40. Nice example of this overdate variety. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1697-1714 in considerable numbers for Karl XII. This is a common date and the SCWC awards the overdate no premium. Eight öre made a mark and six mark made a riksdaler. In 1700, Charles XII embarked on the Great Northern War which would result in the destruction of the empire built by Gustavus Adolphus.
