Sweden 1698-AS 4 mark
This specimen was lot 11097 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it sold for €854 (about US$985). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 4 Mark, 1698 - Sweden. Stockholm Mint. Karl XII. NGC VF-30. Decent example with a nice portrait of the king. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1697-1705 in moderate numbers for Karl XII. This is a slightly scarce date and the SCWC awards the overdate a lower price than the normal date. Eight öre made a mark and six mark made a riksdaler. In 1700, Charles XII embarked on the Great Northern War which would result in the destruction of the empire built by Gustavus Adolphus.
