This specimen was lot 1750 in Stephen Album sale 39 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN: Johan III, 1568-1592, AR mark, [15]73/69, issue from Stockholm Mint, crowned wheat sheaf above two diagonal lines running from upper right to lower left, all within inner circle with IOHANNES.3.D G.SVECIE.GOT.VA.REX around // standard three crown pattern separating "I-M" with ".159Z." below, all within inner circle with "MONETA (floret) NOVA (floret) REGIS (floret) SVECIE (floret)" around, ragged edge (as made), toned, VF, ex Dr. John Lund Collection." Johan III was the second son of Gustaf Vasa and was Duke of Finland from 1556-1563 when he was imprisoned for opposing his brother, Eric XIV. After the demise of Erik, Johan III became King in 1568 and ruled until his death in 1592. One mark was eight öre.
