Swaziland 1975 100 emalangeni
This specimen was lot 46106 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWAZILAND. 100 Emalangeni, 1975. NGC MS-68. A brilliant prooflike coin with reflective fields and frosty devices." This NCLT was part of an extensive series issued 1974-75 in honor of the king's 75th birthday. This one features the king's newest wife. Wikipedia comments, "Known by the honorific 'Bull of Swazi' by virtue of his numerous progeny, King Sobhuza continued the tribal practice of maintaining many consorts. According to the Swaziland National Trust Commission, King Sobhuza II had 70 wives, who gave him 210 children between 1920 and 1970. About 180 children survived infancy, and 97 sons and daughters were reported living as of 2000. At his death he had more than 1,000 grandchildren." The king died in 1982. In April 2018, the official name of the country was changed from Kingdom of Swaziland to Kingdom of Eswatini.
