Stralsund 1674-HIH 1/24 thaler KM-153
This specimen was lot 11062 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Copenhagen, June 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Stralsund. 1/24 Taler, 1674-HIH. Stralsund Mint. Karl XI. NGC VF Details--Bent. From the L.E. Bruun Collection." For this year, the SCWC notes KM 153 (Legend begins at top, struck 1674, 1677, 1684 and 1686) or KM 154 (Legend begins at bottom, 1674 only). The initials HIH stand for mintmaster Heinrich Johann Hille. Sweden seized the port of Stralsund in Pomerania in 1628 and held it until 1809, when it was captured by French troops. Altho Stralsund was autonomous, it was not an imperial free city, and so the Swedish kings permitted it to issue only low value local coinage. The crowned arrow is the badge of the town. At the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the town was ceded to Prussia along with the remnant of Swedish Pomerania.
