This specimen was lot 11331 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €288 (about US$300). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 2/3 Taler, 1677 - HIH. Stralsund Mint. Karl XI. NGC VF-30. Old ink inventory number on obverse. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Leopold Welzl v. Wellenheim Collection (Vienna-1846) Lot # 6844." This type was struck 1677-80 during the peak of the fad for gulden or two-thirds thalers. This gulden was struck in three different styles: KM 158, KM 159 (shown here) and KM 160, varying in the position of the date. Heinrich Johann Hille was mintmaster at Stralsund 1662-1705, Stettin 1666-71 and Rostock 1692-93. Stralsund, in the duchy of Pomerania, was a member of the Hanseatic League but fell under Swedish rule 1637-1815, when the port passed to Prussia. Some of the minors are listed fairly inexpensively.
