Straits Settlements 1919 dollar

Heritage sale 3064, lot 33843

This specimen was lot 33843 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description^[1] noted, "British Colony. George V Dollar 1919 MS64 NGC. A virtually flawless exemplar of the type with slight uneven toning." This type was struck for the Straits Settlements (now Malaysia and Singapore) in 1919-20 with a few rare proofs struck 1925-26. The Straits Settlements dollar, originally 26.95 g, 0.900 fine silver in 1903-04, dropped to 20.21 g, 0.900 fine for 1907-09 and to this specification for this issue. Despite the massive mintage, it is not common.

Recorded mintage: 6,000,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 16.85 g, 0.500 fine silver, 34.1 mm diameter.
