Straits Settlements 1897 20 cents

from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 76321

This specimen was lot 76321 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description^[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 20 Cents, 1897. London Mint. Victoria. NGC AU-58." The type was struck in 1871-1901 after the Straits Settlements were made a separate crown colony and is scarce in nice condition despite the large mintage. This is a better date but not rare.

Recorded mintage: 150,000.

Specification: 5.43 g, 0.800 fine silver, .139 troy oz ASW, 23 mm diameter, reeded edge.
