This specimen was lot 1617 in Steve Album sale 16 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2013), where it sold for $1,180. The catalog description^[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS: Victoria, 1837-1901, AR 50 cents, 1893, surface hairlines, rare date, VF to EF, RR." The type was struck in 1886-1901 and all the dates are scarce to rare. This date is rare.

Recorded mintage: 24,000 plus proofs.
