This specimen was lot 43996 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 50 Cents, 1890-H. Heaton Mint. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. Free of significant flaws and thus highly collectible for the grade sensitive issue." This type was struck 1886-1901 and is scarce in all grades, unlike the smaller denominations.
Recorded mintage: 42,000, a much better date but not the key.
Specification: 13.57 g, 0.800 fine silver.
